eFX has announced it will be selling a limited edition Darth Vader helmet based on the original concept sketches by Ralph McQuarrie.
Affectionately dubbed “McVader†by developers at eFX, the helmet was created from one of those original concept sketches – chosen by McQuarrie – and brought to life by digital sculptor Jay Kushwara exclusively for eFX. “He’s captured the true sinister essence of the Darth Vader that Ralph McQuarrie envisioned in his original sketch,†said Bryan Ono, president of eFX, which also produces limited-edition, collectible replicas inspired by classic Disney movies and by Star Trek.
The three piece helmet is limited to 250 units. If you want to get in on this piece of coolness, you’ll need to queue up bright and early Monday morning (February 8, 2010) at the eFX site. Oh, you’ll also want to bring your big checkbook as the McVader will sell for $899.

‘Course, there’s always the possibility that only a few people will recognise it as the original concept rather than a shoddy copy…but the idea is sound.
