Tobey Maguire is reported to be producing and in consideration for the leading role in the Warner Bros. big screen adaptation of Robotech.
A sprawling sci-fi epic, “Robotech” takes place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off three successive waves of alien invasions. The first invasion concerns a battle with a race of giant warriors who seek to retrieve their flagship’s energy source known as “protoculture,” and the planet’s survival ends up in the hands of two young pilots.
It’s no surprise the WB is ready to tackle Robotech. The amazing $311 million brought in by Transformers has the studios scrambling for 1980s toys and shows to rape our youth draw inspiration from for the big bucks. Can’t say I was ever a fan of Robotech – I can say the same thing about Transformers and G.I. Joe – but I saw the robots in disguise movie, so I imagine I’d see a Robotech movie too.

I enjoy the crossed out statement. No truer words have ever been said.
I still haven’t seen Transformers, but I think a Robotech movie could be really cool. I do happen to be a fan, and remember watching the show as a kid, but not such a fan that I’d consider a movie of the property to be at the level of ‘raping my youth’.
Let’s face it, it’s called ‘intellectual property’ with an emphasis on property. Everything that can be reduced to information is a commodity. As long as any media can rake in buckets full of cash the ‘property’ will superced the ‘intellectual’.
Not that I’m above fears of beloved properties getting mishandled as movies:

Sounds like a simple enough translation. Robotech was pretty deep in story and design.
