Fans of the first Spawn movie, or the original comic book, or just a fan of Todd McFarlane, will get a kick out of the news that McFarlane has started worked on the screenplay for a new Spawn movie.
“The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years,” McFarlane said. “The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a standalone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary.”
According to SuperHero Hype, the McFarlane is targeting older audiences for this film.

Selling your soul to satan is soooo played out ;)
All this could be is another retelling of the same origin story though right?
Do the masses still remember who Spawn is?
Sure they do… He was on Robot Chicken dancing with the devil, right?
You can almost set your clock to the frequency of this non-story. Todd’s been talking about another Spawn film about every six months for the past decade.
If it happens, I do hope they go with the R-rated story for an older audience. Anything less comes across as silly.
McFarlane’s said on twitter that he wants a more adult story, I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on that.
Is Spawn at all relevant these days? I remember the hype when he first came out as the book suffered from style over substance, I for one just don’t care – and I’m usually first in line for comic book movies.
