It came as no surprise to me as The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles took the number one spot at the box office raking in an estimated $25 million for Warner Bros. and the Weinstein Co. Leo and crew were able to use their box office draw to topple the Spartans from Frank Miller’s 300, which took the number two spot.
Next weekend should hopefully see a boost in box office sales, but if you then calculate a regular weekly drop between 30 and 40 percent, the ninja turtle movie could easily make over $100 million.
“It’s sequel time, dudes,” said Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of the Weinstein Co., which is distributing “TMNT” overseas. “We knew from the inception of this project that that the `TMNT’ characters would continue to resonate with audiences across the world.”
