Did You Hear? is a weekly examination of headlines in the entertainment industry and a take on what they could mean for the future of the industry and (often), the little geeky bubble that we occupy!
Since this week is San Diego Comic-Con I’m sharing the biggest announcements from the convention so far. Anticipate more San Diego Comic-Con news over the weekend as it breaks and on Did You Hear? when the feature returns again next Friday.
Ram V Signs Exclusive with DC Comics
Ram V has been a rising star at DC Comics for the past few years. The horror flare he brings to classic superheroes (Aquaman comes to mind, for the DC Black Label fans), has been increasingly popular with diehard Wednesday warriors. Announced yesterday at San Diego Comic-Con DC Comics will be the exclusive future home for Ram V – and no more Marvel Comics, DSTLRY, and Boom Studios will be in his future for the next two years. He has signed a two year exclusive contract with DC Comics.
Following the announcement Ram V tweeted:
Ram V on Twitter: “Very thrilled to say, I’ve signed an exclusive contract with @DCOfficial and am very excited to tell more stories with these characters and this universe. Many cool things to come! @thedcnation pic.twitter.com/ltrjCNfYOy / Twitter”

More New X-Men for Marvel?
Is the logo giving Age of Apocalypse to anyone else? Or is it my 90s comics loving brain?
Yesterday DC Comics had it’s big Batman Family announcements and, not to be outdone, Marvel Comics showed up asking a big question of their readers:
Who are the New X-Men?
“Grant Morrison’s team!” I shout in my brain from the back of the room.
The actual answer was based on a fan vote to determine who would make up the new X-Men team lineup and the results included:
- Jubilee
- Juggernaut
- Prodigy
- Dazzler
- Cannonball
- Frenzy
All the Dazzler love of the past ten years seems to be paying off!
If you recognize all of those names then you are either current on your X-Men titles or a real comic book nerd. Either way, I love you. In fact, even if you don’t recognize any of those names, but are still interested I love you. We don’t gatekeep comics here.
Few details aside from the lineup have been released besides the line up above and the assurance the team would debut in an all new #1 issue.
Mystique and Nightcrawler Getting New Origin
In the same panel, Marvel’s Designing the X-Men, my very favourite X-person was the subject of another announcement: he’s getting a retcon.
In the upcoming issue X-Men Blue: Origins #1 the every-evolving and always-confusing origin of Kurt Wagner a.k.a. The Incredible Nightcrawler is going to be “definitely” addressed, updated, and put to bed until the next time someone wants to play in the blue sandbox. Nightcrawler is reconnecting with his mother, Mystique, for an issue Marvel Comics is anticipating will cement itself as a “collectors’ item” to redefine them both.
From the cover image which was shared it appears mother and son are getting mixed up in the world of Spider-Man which, at first blush, feels potentially more confusing than clarifying, but time will soon tell. Catch up on Uncanny Spider-Man for a little more backstory on this particular Spidey if you are nothing but confused to be reading this right now! X-Men Blue: Origins #1 hits in November this year, so you have some time.
