According to Dynamite Entertainment this week’s Red Sonja #1, which celebrates 50 years of the character, has sold more than 72,000 copies, prompting the publisher to print 85,000 in anticipation of even more reader demand.
Writer Torunn Grønbekk (Thor, Realm of X) and longtime franchise artist Walter Geovani are crafting an incredible tale for fans new and old, exploring a Red Sonja on the run as she ruminates on everything that has gotten her to this point, what her destiny holds, and where she will venture next. With the kinetic art style of Geovani and blazing action, it’s the perfect encapsulation of the character’s five decades of fun, and a path forward.
It is important to keep in mind that the 85,000 copies are the totals ordered through comic shops, and not how many copies have been purchased by customers. Still, with all of these covers available, I suspect this issue will be in short supply at your LCS.
