Ms Marvel Trailer
In a continued bid to have viewers forget about their politics, and a little bit for an investor meeting, Disney+ and Marvel Studios released a trailer for the upcoming Ms Marvel series:
Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel | Official Trailer | Disney+
The future is in her hands.Ms. Marvel, an Original series from Marvel Studios, starts streaming June 8 on Disney+. ► Watch Marvel on Disney+: https://bit.ly…
Setting aside my snide tone from the beginning of this section – I think this trailer is amazing! There is a Scott Pilgrim vs the World youthful energy to this trailer I haven’t seen from the standard Marvel fare. Alongside Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, this first look at Ms Marvel I find incredibly intriguing.
Major Spoilers has long Ms Marvel for a long time as well. You can go back through the archives and find the exact moment in 2014 when Ms Marvel #1 was first reviewed!
The trailer has already caused a water drop’s worth of controversy on Twitter amongst the same crowd who can’t abide fanfiction writing in Turning Red, but as someone who has loved Kamala Khan from her inception, I am extremely pleased to see her self-identified “superhero fangirl” firmly in place. Fellow fans of her respective comic book series(eseseses), will recognize key characters and Easter Eggs (hey, Circle Q!), throughout the trailer. The biggest divergence being step away from Kamala Khan’s Inhuman nature. Post Agents of SHIELD finale it seems Marvel Studios is backing away from the Inhumans rather than doubling down. From this trailer it appears the eponymous Ms Marvel’s powers come from two bracelets rather than an innate power set.
To show my bias once again, I would love to read your thoughts and reactions to this first trailer in the comments of this post!
Captain Kirk Returns to Star Trek
In the flurry of Star Trek shows which have been on the horizon Strange New Worlds has been brought into the milieu. They are in active production and photographers have caught guest stars working on set so the casting announcements are about to fly in!
Paul Wesley (of Vampire Diaries fame), was caught shooting opposite La’an of Strange New Worlds and then Paramount+ rushed out an official announcement a day later.
Executive producer Alex Kurtzman and showrunners and executive producers Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers released the following statement:
Paul is an accomplished actor, an astonishing presence and a welcome key addition to the show. Like all of us, he is a life-long ‘Star Trek’ fan and we are excited by his interpretation of this iconic role.
Wesley promptly Tweeted his excitement:
Paul Wesley on Twitter: “I am deeply humbled and still a little startled to have been given the honor of playing the inimitable James T Kirk. Ever since I was a kid, I have been awed by the imaginative world Gene Roddenberry created. Recently, I boarded a flight to LA to discover that the man in the pic.twitter.com/U8GVD4ZemP / Twitter”
I am deeply humbled and still a little startled to have been given the honor of playing the inimitable James T Kirk. Ever since I was a kid, I have been awed by the imaginative world Gene Roddenberry created.
… which included a blessing from the original Captain James Tiberius Kirk, William Shatner, himself.
How exactly will Captain Kirk fit into Strange New Worlds which already stars his iconic first officer, Mister Spock (played by Ethan Peck)? Per Variety:
The show follows the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike prior to Kirk becoming captain of the Enterprise. Wesley will appear as a young version of Kirk. He is now the third actor to play the character in a live-action project. Most famously, William Shatner played Kirk in the original “Star Trek” series as well as in multiple films. Chris Pine has played Kirk in three “Star Trek” films to date, with a fourth on the way.
Actor Anson Mount plays the iconic Captain Pike alongside Rebecca Romijn as Number one. Mount is the fourth actor to portray adult Pike in live action, beating out Wesley as the third actor to be portraying adult Kirk in live action – both on the same show!
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will debut on Paramount+ on May 5th, 2022.
