Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Series Finds Its Name
If you’re a listener of the Major Spoilers Podcast you shouldn’t be surprised this is the first story I had to write about this week! On Wednesday Amazon Studios released a video announcing the name of their upcoming Lord of the Rings television series:
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power – Title Announcement | Prime Video
A new age begins September 2, 2022. Journey to Middle-earth with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power #LOTRonPrime #LOTR #LOTRROP —About “The Lord of …
The Rings of Power is set during the Second Age of Middle Earth and, as is increasingly becoming obvious, will focus on the relationship between Ring Bearers. For good or for ill! Despite only a fraction of the cast being announced the inclusion of Galadriel, Elrond, Sauron, and Isildur tells Eagle-eyed book readers exactly what to expect from Season 1!
Morfydd Clark (His Dark Materials), plays Galadriel and narrates the trailer in the proud tradition of Galadriel being the voice of Middle-Earth. This was first established by Cate Blanchett’s origination of Galadriel in the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Robert Aramayo (you may recognize him as Young Ned Stark from the Tower of Joy episode of Game of Thrones), is currently rumoured to be playing Elrond, although I would not rule him out to play Sauron. Or “Mairon” – one of Sauron’s aliases sometimes referred to as his “angel name”. With no confirmation, there are also no guesses at who will be filling the evilest shoes in Arda.
Lastly, Maxim Baldry (Doctor Who), is suspected to be playing Isildur, ancestor of Aragorn and King of Men movie viewers met at the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring.
Personally, I was really hoping this would be more of a traditional trailer which would also confirm the casting rumours we’ve been living with for years now – but at least the title is confirmed!
This week, my call for comments is on this topic! Please share your Lord of the Rings Season 1 predictions with me. I want to read!
Moon Knight Drops a Full-Length Trailer
If, like myself, you are still living in a reality where you can’t understand how there is a Moon Knight series in existence then the trail drop on Monday might have surprised you:
Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight | Official Trailer | Disney+
No Description
The trailer is packed with Easter Eggs from the introduction of one of Moon Knight’s personalities – Steven – to a deep-cut Marvel character inspiring Ethan Hawke’s villain. Disney+ is certainly tilling fertile ground in their latest series. The trailer includes many references to the Moon Knight series written by: Warren Ellis with art by Declan Shalvey.
It is a touch surprising to find a Moon Knight show set in England, unless you consider Marvel’s penchant for shooting at the UK’s Pinewood Studios (where most of Black Widow was shot).
Moon Knight will be available for streaming on Disney+ March 30th, 2022.
Matt Reeves Drops New The Batman Poster
Not to be outdone by Marvel’s answer to Batman, The Batman dropped a new poster earlier this week:
Matt Reeves understands the importance of Batman’s chin! While the poster would appear to reveal nothing the text Unmask the Truth is sure to be a theme running through the movie and might explain that distinct Scarecrow costume fans caught a glimpse of last week.
Fun fact: The Batman also did most of its shooting in-and-around the United Kingdom much like Moon Knight. For my Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale fans out there reading this, yes, Batman Begins also spent a good portion of principle photography in England as well. It’s practically a Batman tradition!
The Batman hits cinemas on March 4th, 2022.
We’re all wondering the same thing you are, Spoilerites: is it March yet?
