This year, as is our tradition, my child and I have been opening our LEGO Star Wars advent calendar, building little ships and minifigures and nonsensical things. (Last year’s had a snowblower, for some reason.) I heard Patton Oswalt talking about his favorite calendar, with each new day revealing a small bottle of top-notch booze, while others have been telling me about a calendar that contains short stories for each day of the holiday season. All of those sound cool, as does the one that features premium chocolates for three weeks in December, leading to today’s seasonal query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) would also love a calendar featuring holiday-themed comic books, though it might have to be a little larger than standard, asking: If you could choose, what would you most want to find in the compartments of YOUR advent calendar?

As a child, my advent calendar was a perennial one that my mother made. It had a felt tree over numbered pockets that each held felt ornaments that you would pin on the tree, with the star for the top always the last. We used straight pins, which in retrospect is probably not the best thing for toddler fingers, but it was always a joy.
In my adulthood, I still use a perennial calendar, but now it’s one with fabric ornaments that hang off of button ‘lights’ on a fabric tree, and Santa is always the last one. Speaking of which, I should go put up today’s…. Thanks for the reminder!
Something that would actually be realistic, maybe Gundam model kit customization parts.
