The current run of Iron Man by Christopher Cantwell has surprised me by bringing back a character who had previously only made a guest appearance in an issue of Marvel Fanfare when I was in high school. It was one of those moments that makes you do a double-take, but then feels perfectly natural, tying into a single story from 1989 and making it feel like all the Marvel Iron Man stories are, in fact, part of a shared fabric. Then again, it’s a story that features The Gargoyle, continuity ties to a 1977 issue of What If?, the return of Hellcat’s psychic powers from Dave Kraft’s run on Defenders and more callbacks that make me happy, leading to today’s memorial query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) is now waiting for somebody to finally bring back The Gazorcher, hoping that the three of you who get that reference are with me, asking: What character would you most like to see plucked from obscurity to the first string?

‘Golden Oldie’ from Marvel Team-Up #137 when Aunt May became a herald of Galactus (In a dream of course).
Marvel has designated that reality as Earth-8417, so it’s not a dream, just an alternate world that you can access THROUGH a dream.
Presumably, the Dream Queen (from Alpha Flight) is ruling there…
Gomi and Bill. I think they’d make marvelous foils for Squirrel Girl.
Does Comet Queen count as obscure? Totally one of the most interesting Legion characters.
I’d say absolutely yes.
