IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
DOCTOR WHO: MISSY #3
Writer: Jody Houser
Artist: Roberta Ingranata
Publisher: Titan Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Missy’s up to her old tricks, but this time she’s not alone! How will the Doctor survive this latest maniacal plot in this special story celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Master?
MATTHEW: So, Missy toe-to-toe with the original Master has been fun, but I’m still waiting to see the Doctors promised in this series. Of course, it’s been pretty good, so I’m not complaining too hard.
HEROES REBORN #7
Writer: Jason Aaron
Artist: Aaron Kuder, Ed McGuinness
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: Together they ended the Kree/Skrull war, defeated Dr. Doom in his Secret War and even endured their own civil war between Hyperion and Nighthawk, but now the Squadron Supreme of America faces their greatest challenge yet: a mysterious new group of troublemakers called the Avengers.
MATTHEW: This story has been building since the first issues of Avengers, and Aaron has done a great job with the ol’ Alternate Universe trope. I’m definitely interested in how this ends (and if this IS the end.)
THE MANY DEATHS OF LAILA STARR #3
Writer: Ram V
Artist: Filipe Andrade
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: * More years have passed when Laila Starr, the now-mortal reincarnation of the avatar of Death, once again crosses paths with the future creator of immortality.
* This time at a party where the young man will have a life-altering experience that will shape him for years to come. Will Laila change his path in this one night, or the other way around?
INGRID: Charming and thoughtful, The Many Deaths of Laila Starr explores the lives of the avatar of Death as she keeps crossing paths with the young man who will create immortality. Each issue is fascinating, the art is magnificent, and the story continues to surprise and delight.
RADIANT BLACK #5
Writer: Kyle Higgins
Artist: Marcello Costa
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Radiant Red is still out there. He needs to be stopped before anyone else gets hurt. But after the events of last issue left Lockport-and the world-reeling, is Radiant Black up to the task? And will he be in this fight alone?
INGRID: After the cliffhanger ending of last issue, I am more than excited to read Radiant Black #5! Every time we think we know where the tropes are going to send us, there is just another little twist to the story that keeps this one fresh and lively.
MATTHEW: It is rare that a comic successfully follows through on a “THIS ISSUE CHANGES EVERYTHING!” solicitation, so you’d better believe that I’m coming back after Radian Black #4 pulled it off. This book reminds me of early Invincible, and you don’t want to miss out.
STEPHEN: Definitely an ending I wasn’t expecting, and I don’t know how to feel about it. Regardless, still a must grab this week.
ROBOT OVERLORD: You will become better acquainted with a coworker.
