IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
COMMANDERS IN CRISIS #3
Writer: Steve Orlando
Artist: Davide Tinto
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Crisis Command interrogates a ticking clock corpse! But how can heroes save a world without empathy? FIRST they have to figure out how to save it within themselves, as Nina Next, the incredible science hero FRONTIER, takes John Doe Empathy out on the town… to discuss their secrets.
STEPHEN: This has been a surprisingly good series, that not only riffs on the crisis/crossover events from the big two, but also creates a universe that is easy to access, and kind of gets me hoping we see more of this when this series ends.
ONCE & FUTURE #14
Writer: Kieron Gillen
Artist: Dan Mora
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Gran, Duncan and Rose are on a new quest to learn more about Merlin’s plan when they come face-to-face with another mysterious knight of legend. But if they want to track down the powerful Nimue and stay one step ahead of their enemy, it seems the trio will need to play this knight’s game, whether they like it or not…
INGRID: I love this book so much. It takes the bones of familiar myths and legends and turns them into something fresh and magical. Gran, Duncan, and Rose are a delightful trio, and their life is about to get just a bit more complicated.
SCOOBY-DOO, WHERE ARE YOU? #107
Writer: Derek Fridolfs
Artist: Randy Elliot
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: It’s Friday night, and Scooby and the gang are ready for some bowling at their favorite hangout! When the Skulldugger’s rampage clears the alley, Mystery Inc. stays behind to investigate. Can the gang flush out the culprit in time to spare the house? Or will it be game over for Coolsville Bowling Alley?
STEPHEN: Because YOU demanded it! This week, we’re taking a look at Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? #107 on the Dueling Review podcast. In a year where everything is a dumpster fire, maybe we need a bit of levity when Scoob and the gang head to the bowling alley.
SECOND COMING: ONLY BEGOTTEN SON #1 (OF 6)
Writer: Mark Russell
Artist: Leonard Kirk and Richard Pace
Publisher: Ahoy Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: “The world’s most dangerous comic book and the most lovely” (Comics Beat) returns for a new six-issue series, by superstar writer Mark Russell and artists Richard Pace and Leonard Kirk. The infant Sunstar will grow up to fulfill his destiny as Earth’s most powerful superhero and roommate to Jesus Christ – but first, he and his parents must endure the mundane and the tedious on the last night of the doomed planet Zirconia. All AHOY comics feature extra prose stories and illustrations.
CHRISTOPHER: I’m not familiar with the series but the premise is so out there I feel that I have to check it out.
SERA AND THE ROYAL STARS #10
Writer: Jon Tsuei
Artist: Audrey Mok
Publisher: Vault Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Sera, her family and the Royal Stars take the fight to Eltanin and Rastaban in a final showdown. What price must be paid to finally free the Royal Stars and restore the seasons?
CHRISTOPHER: It has been a long and enduring journey with Sera. I’m anxious for this conclusion and I wonder what, if anything, is coming next.
INGRID: And it all comes down to this final battle! Sera and the Royal Stars is a grandly sweeping fantasy adventure built around a rich mythology. The art is gorgeous, and the characters are so interesting – I am excited to see how it all ends, but sorry that it must do so.
ROBOT OVERLORD: Begin your life anew with strength, grace and wonder.
