PRESS RELEASE
Humanoids, the Los Angeles-based publisher of some of the world’s most iconic and groundbreaking science fiction and fantasy graphic novels, is celebrating the 40th anniversary of THE INCAL by writer Alejandro Jodorowsky and internationally acclaimed artist Mœbius with a special anniversary trade paperback edition. The trade paperback collects Mœbius’ and Jodorowsky’s sci-fi masterpiece in one volume and includes a foreword by bestselling writer Brian Michel Bendis. It’s available now, retailing for $29.99.
“If you’ve never read THE INCAL, here’s a word of caution,” said Humanoids Publisher Mark Waid. “This book is unlike anything you’ve ever read before, and you’ll very likely never experience anything like it again. It’s mind-blowing, jaw-dropping, absolutely insane storytelling by two masters of the medium that will challenge your preconception of what comics can do. With THE INCAL, Alejandro Jodorowsky & Mœbius created one of the essential graphic novels. It’s as fresh, weird, and transgressive today as it was 40 years ago when it was first published.” For Humanoids’ Free Comic Book Day comic this year, Waid wrote a brand-new Incal tale illustrated by Stéphane Roux (Star Wars, Birds of Prey) that serves as a perfect introduction to the series.
In this iconic story by Jodorowsky and Mœbius, John DiFool, a low-class detective in a degenerate, dystopian world, finds his life turned upside down when he discovers an ancient, mystical artifact called “the Incal.” DiFool’s adventures will bring him into conflict with the galaxy’s greatest warrior, the Metabaron, and will pit him against the awesome powers of the Technopope. These encounters and many more make up a tale of comic and cosmic proportions that has DiFool fighting for not only his very survival, but also the survival of the entire universe.
