I admit it: I’m starting to weary of clever-clever filmmakers counting Joseph Campbell’s monomyth to do their story heavy-lifting for them. That said, I do like the idea of having a wise and powerful mentor step in and help me to channel my powers (which are not inborn as a special chosen one, because enough with the frickin’ special chosen one already) and become the hero I need to be. Having a mysterious ninja Stick or a time-traveling Rufus to point me down the correct path sounds great (especially if they’re George Carlin), and knowing that he or she will be struck down by my Kurrgan should motivate me to be the best Highlander/Jedi/Iron Eagle I can be, leading to today’s mentor-riffic query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) is likely to vote for ADAA (American Dodgeball Association Of America) champion Patches O’Houlihan, who provided his wisdom and wrenches to Peter LeFleur’s band of misfits, asking: Which pop-culture mentor would you want to lead you into your heroic journey?

I was going to say Roy Fokker from Macross/Robotech, but as I scrolled past the “related posts” section and saw the image from yesterdays MSQOTD, I realized there’s only one correct answer to this question.

“It’s fine now. Why? Because I AM HERE!”
I’m with that guy.
Sounds legit to me.
The Peter Capaldi Doctor I think would steer me right and not mollycoddle me at the same time.
Plus, he’s Scottish, so you know he’s a good guy under those rough edges, according to modern entertainment accent law.
