Did You Hear? is a weekly examination of headlines in the entertainment industry and a take on what they could mean for the future of the industry and (often), the little geeky bubble that we occupy!
Everything Coming to VoD
Hey Spoilerites, we know right now everything is crazy. The entertainment industry doesn’t look like the landscape we are looking for. New Media and Social Media are some of the only platforms continuing to turn out consistent content. We here at Major Spoilers are rallying together to keep making awesome stuff for you to engage with.
As the landscape has shifted and cinemas are closing down all over the world huge entertainment studios are taking their projects from the movie theatres into our homes! With that in mind, we have curated a list of movies you have – or soon will have – access to as we responsibly practice social distancing!
Frozen 2
Disney+ kicked us off with Frozen 2 releasing on streaming a couple days ago, months in advance of its scheduled release. With Frozen already streaming on the same platform fans of Anna and Elsa now have access to the second chapter of their saga! Fun for the whole family.
The Hunt
Dropping TODAY is Damon Lindelof’s The Hunt which has had nothing but struggles to get itself to the public for viewing! As a Lindelof fan I was crossing my fingers The Hunt would come to streaming under the current circumstances and now my wish has been answered. This is definitely not family fare, but in the wake of HBO’s Watchmen blowing up under Lindelof’s shepherding there’s a good chance the lil movie that could might do well under social distancing.
The Invisible Man
Another offering that is definitely not for the faint of heart! A remake of a remake of a remake, The Invisible Man debuted before social distancing was put in place and garnered good reviews. If you like horror and thrillers, seems like it might be worth checking out! Available today!
Emma
“Handsome, clever, and rich.” Be still my beating heart! For the romantic or period-piece-obsessed in all of it, Ana Taylor-Joy’s contemporary adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic Emma in on VoD today! Of everything that’s been released early it is Emma, along with The Hunt, I am most looking forward to. This visually stunning adaptation will hopefully inspire viewers to (re)read the original source materil the same way Little Women did. Streaming now!
Birds of Prey
Birds of Prey enjoyed a run in movie theatres and was pretty popular among the DC Movie-going audience. This doesn’t set a precedence for whether or not Wonder Woman 1984 will come into our homes as speedily, but it will allow even more people access to the ongoing adventures of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn! Watch it next Tuesday!
Bloodshot
**ONWARD
UPDATED: right before this article went live Disney announced Pixar’s latest offering, DnD-inspired Onward, hits VoD today at 5pm PDT and will be available on Disney+ streaming with subscription on April 3rd. Access to more family fare!
I’ve been excited for this movie for a long time! Valiant Entertainment is poised to carve out a really interesting position in the entertainment landscape. I was super bummed when I made the decision not to support the movie opening weekend in cinemas and I’m so hyped to see Vin Diesel take on this iconic independent comic book character! Stream next Tuesday!
Per EW the following popular movies are on/coming to Video on Demand soon:
- Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
- Trolls World Tour
- Little Women
- Jumanji: the Next Level
- Queen & Slim
- Bombshell
- Spies in Disguise
- Richard Jewell
- 1917
