One of the most disappointing part of the wait for ‘WKRP In Cincinnati’ on DVD was the fact that so many songs had to be excised to to rights issues. The resulting fake songs aren’t bad, but they just don’t have the same heft as the real 70s music originally used in the show. Of course, when it comes to faux tunes, it’s hard to beat ‘Let’s Go To The Mall’ by Robin Sparkles or Greg Universe’s epic ‘Like A Comet’, perhaps the greatest 90s song never made. And of course, there’s Rodrigo’s fave-rave from ‘A Goofy Movie’, the power ballad ‘Stand Out’, leading to today’s Scotty-Doesn’t-Know query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) still giggles when the lyric “High schooool is such a seeerious tiiiime… The problems maaatter” plays in a particular episode of ‘Family Guy’, asking: What’s your favorite Fake Song in all of pop culture?
