PRESS RELEASE
Dynamite announces a strengthened licensing deal with creator Joseph Michael Linsner to help celebrate his iconic indie creation Dawn’s 30th anniversary!
This bolsters the already strong relationship that Dynamite and Linsner have shared for years. Including the existing Dawn statue, which Linsner’s dedicated fans showed out in droves to support. Additionally available this fall in time for the holidays are collections of Linsner’s Dynamite published series, collectible promo trading cards and a premium quality giclée print.
Linsner continues to be one of Dynamite’s most treasured and fan-favorite cover artists, with ongoing contributions to the Red Sonja flagship series as well as other recent covers for Elvira: Mistress of the Dark and Bettie Page. 2014 saw the release of the smash-hit crossover series Dawn/Vampirella, written and drawn by Linsner. The paperback edition of that collection will hit store shelves this November. Together with his writing partner and Vampirella super fan, Kristina Deak-Linsner, he created the critically acclaimed Vampirella: Roses for the Dead limited series which brought the Daughter of Drakulon’s cousin Evily the witch back to prominence. The Roses for the Dead hardcover collection released this August.
“I am thrilled to be working with Nick Barrucci and the great folks at Dynamite to help celebrate Dawn’s 30th anniversary,” said creator Joseph Michael Linsner. “I’ve known Nick for at least 30 years, so it feels like a friendly reunion getting to put our heads together and come up with new and exciting items. The Dawn statue Dynamite released is my very favorite that I’ve ever done, so let that be a symbol for the good things to follow. I’m excited — the best is yet to come!”
“Likewise, Joe and I go way back. He has a singular, distinct style and creative drive that is matched by very few in this industry. I have always admired and been impressed with how he has nurtured Dawn, one of the most iconic female characters in comics history. We at Dynamite cannot wait to celebrate this monumental anniversary!”
Linsner created Dawn, the sensual goddess of birth and rebirth, in 1989 for the indie sensation anthology Cry for Dawn. Her indelible design instantly captivated fans thanks to Linsner’s talents. As of today, Dawn has starred in half a dozen series and other appearances, helped by one of the most passionate fanbases in independent comics.
Dynamite and Linsner are teaming up for a set of collectible promo trading cards celebrating the legacy of Dawn through these three decades. This limited edition set is also available signed by Linsner himself. And there may be more Dawn trading card news down the line…
Two variations on the hit Dawn statue are out soon! A special black and white artist proof edition of the Dawn statue is slated for release in October. While an artist proof edition of the costume variant statue is out in November. Only around 50 units are being produced of these rare collector’s items.
For the Joseph Michael Linsner super fans, Dynamite is proud to produce a giclée of his iconic Dawn/Vampirella #1 cover. Giclée prints are highest-end art reproductions that capture every detail of the original work as humanly, mechanically or technically possible. The resulting print has no perceptible dot pattern, an endless array of richly-saturated color, and every nuance of the original image. Dynamite is now excited to be offering these ultra-premium prints optionally with beautiful frames as well. There are less than a handful of these being made, so they will be among the most exclusive Dawn and Linsner collectibles out there!
Dawn’s 30th anniversary coincides with so many other exciting anniversaries in the Dynamite extended family. Including the 15th anniversary of Dynamite’s publishing efforts, Vampirella’s 50th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of Chaos! Comics (Evil Ernie, Chastity, Purgatori). Stay tuned to Dynamite for more news on Dawn.
