Major Spoilers Question of the Day: Voice Of Terror Edition

Matthew PetersonBy Matthew PetersonAugust 15, 20193 Comments1 Min Read

For many years, the most disturbing voice I could imagine was Chris latta’s shrill Starscream/Cobra Commander vocal stylings, the sonic equivalent of a dental drill to the ear canals.  But as I’ve aged, I realize how terrifying that high-pitched ranting actually is, especially in a would-be world conqueror.  Many other villains have followed in Latta’s nasal footsteps, like King Candy from ‘Wreck It Ralph’ or Judge Doom revealing his real self at the end of ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’, leading to today’s ear-splitting query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) Is still creeped out by Dalek voices, especially given their tendency  asks: What alien, monster or villain has the most inescapable voice of terror?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture! And a nice red uniform.

You got it right there in the picture. That “exterminate” is somehow in such a weird pitch that its pretty disturbing. Another one is Godzilla screech. But mostly because its usually way too loud in movie theaters. Like actually hurting your ears, seat rumbling, way beyond safe decibel range.
