IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
BEAST OF BURDEN: THE PRESENCE OF OTHERS #2

SOLICITATION: A possessing spirit. A murder of crows. An act of betrayal. Can the beasts of Burden Hill survive the growing presence of evil in their midst?
INGRID: The premise of this book is so incredibly cool – intelligent (even magic-using) animals fighting the supernatural in their midst. Here, the dogs and cats have to work with a family of humans, which makes for fascinating interactions. And the watercolor art is sublime.
BLACK CAT #1
Writer: Jed MacKay
Artist: Travel Foreman, Michael Dowling, Nao Fuji
Publisher: Marvel
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION:
SPINNING OUT OF THE PAGES OF AMAZING SPIDER-MAN!
ALL-NEW ONGOING SERIES!
The Black Cat is back and starring in her first ever ongoing series! Felicia Hardy has a taste for the finer things in life and a certain set of skills that can get her into any mansion, vault or museum to…procure said finer things. But due to her actions in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, Felicia’s not only on the run from the police but also by the New York Theives Guild and their boss ODESSA DRAKE! High-octane heists, climactic chases and twist after twist that will keep you on the edge of your seat like a cat on a perch. IN THIS ISSUE: Find out a secret from Cat’s past in a bonus story that sets a foundation for the future! All this and an all-new MARVEL MEOW short story by Nao Fuji!
STEPHEN: Because Marvel doesn’t send us review copies, I can’t tell you if this book is going to be good or bad, though you can hear my reactions on this week’s Dueling Review podcast. That being said, a lot of YOU think this looks interesting, so I’m dropping this on the list this week because I like weird feedback loops.
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #5
Writer: Jordie Bellaire
Artist: David Lopez
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: After the stunning events of Issue #4, the Scooby Gang tries to recover and deal with a new threat that’s arising within the very halls of Sunnydale High itself.
STEPHEN: I thought this series was going to be the worst, but it turns out BOOM! Studios and the creative team have taken a story we all know, and turned it in a direction I wasn’t expecting. Have really enjoyed Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I think you will, too.
DCEASED #2
Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Trevor Hairsine, Stefano Guadiano
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Millions are dying every minute. Heroes and villains alike are falling. Can the Justice League unite to find a way to stop the spread of death? Can they save humanity from extinction? Can they even save themselves? The key to survival may hinge on the last moments of one of the World’s Finest Heroes…
STEPHEN: Call it morbid curiosity, but I really want to see where DC’s zombie horror tale is going. If you loved Marvel Zombies, I think you might enjoy DCeased #2.
RONIN ISLAND #4
Writer: Greg Pak
Artist: Giannis Milonogiannis
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.00
SOLICITATION: Hana and Kenichi come face-to-face with the Shogun himself, and discover a startling secret behind the disaster that destroyed their homelands more than twenty years ago.
INGRID: This tale of two young heroes coming of age is a terrific mix of action, mystery, culture, and social commentary set in Asia. Well written and beautifully drawn, it’s a great book.
STEPHEN: I enjoy this book more than I thought it would. Greg Pak and Giannis Milonogiannis continue to deliver a fine tale.
