5) JOHN HORUS
The greatest hero of his world, John is the Superman-analogue of ‘Black Summer.’ This makes it even more shocking when he infiltrates the White House to take out the Commander-In-Chief for criminal policies, claiming to be the only one with the power to do so. This sets off a massive manhunt, bringing John’s retired hero allies, The Seven Guns, back into action, with many of them getting killed in the process. (The book actually used the real sitting President in the story, adding an uncomfortable wrinkle to what could have been just another ‘Dark Knight Returns’ riff.)
