DC Comics has launched a brand new Suicide Squad series that is a digital-first on ComiXology, Google Play, Amazon Kindle, iTunes, and Barnes & Noble Nook platforms.
Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay is a sequel to the upcoming Hell to Pay animated film which is scheduled to arrive as a digital download on March 27, 2018, and on DVD/Blu-ray on April 10th. It may seem odd to have a sequel arrive before the movie, but this is actually a very proactive move by DC. Suicide Squad, the digital comic is a 12-part series that will release weekly, so by the time the animated movie arrives on Blu-ray, the first three installments of the comic series will be available for fans who want to see what happens to the Squad next. And, if DC plans to take the series to print, the first two issue will be ready for delivery to stores.
Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay is written by Batman ’66 scribe Jeff Parker, with art from Matthew Dow Smith, Agustin Padilla, Stefano Raffaele, and Cat Staggs.
“Our story picks up immediately after the Hell to Pay animated film, and Waller is still on a personal mission to save her soul—and she’s willing to put the Suicide Squad through hell to do it,” says Parker. “This time, the Squad goes way out of their element and around the world to face supernatural and ancient forces—and yes, Harley is in there too!”
Amanda Waller’s Task Force X has completed another mission—and in her opinion, the prize was worth the price they paid. But with the Spectre closing in to take Waller’s soul, she must find a new means of escaping death. Now looking to Jason Blood as a possible ally, Waller may face a revolt from her own team for this latest addition to the Squad. Is membership in the Suicide Squad really better than imprisonment at Belle Reve?
Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay the digital comic book is available now. Each chapter of the 12-part series has a price tag of 99-cents. In past DC Digital First comics, each issue is about the length of half of a comic book, so the 12-part digital series is roughly the equivalent of a six issue mini-series. At $11.88, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay will be slightly cheaper to buy in digital format than in print.
