With Dan Slott’s departure from the Amazing Spider-Man beginning with issue #801, a new creative team, and an all-new direction are planned for everyone’s favorite wall-crawler beginning in July.
Marvel has announced that Ryan Ottley, recently of Invincible fame, will bring his talents beginning with Amazing Spider-Man #1. Personally, I’m very excited about this news, as Ottley has always delivered the goods in the pages of Invincible. It will be interesting to see him tone down the bloody violence the next time Spider-Man takes on a group of goons, and Ottley may have to pull some punches the next time Spidey goes up against The Vulture (he’s old, you know).
Even more interesting is news from Marvel that Nick Spencer has been tapped to write the series that kicks off in July 2018. Spencer is still under fire from those who are smarting from his Secret Empire series that saw a Captain America revealed as a Hydra sleeper agent.
While Amazing Spider-Man #1 doesn’t arrive until July 2018, we can all get a sneak peek of what the creative team has planned when the Free Comic Bood Day issue lands on May 4, 2018.
