IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
ALIENS DEAD ORBIT #4
Writer: James Stokoe
Artist: James Stokoe
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: With one last gambit aboard the space station, Wascylewski finds himself ambushed by two more deadly xenomorphs that will stop at nothing until he’s dead.
The conclusion to Orc Stain creator James Stokoe’s thrilling and claustrophobic Aliens story!
CHRIS: Stokoe is clearly an Alien fan. The designs of machinery and suits, and the meticulous level of detail in the art look like they came right out of the Ridley Scott film. This has been the first Alien comic in a while that has disturbed me, and that’s not easy to do. The biggest tragedy is that this is the last issue.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #792
Writer: Dan Slott
Artist: Ryan Stegman
Publisher: Marvel
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: VENOM INC. Part 2! Spider-Man finds himself between Eddie and a mysterious new figure! And Black Cat and her gang find themselves face-to-face with an amped-up villain named Maniac that might just rip those faces right off.
STEPHEN: Man, you skip one issue and Venom is tearing things up. Can’t wait to see how Slott works this all out.
BACK TO THE FUTURE #25
Writer: John Barber, Bob Gale
Artist: Marcelo Ferreira, Athila Fabbio
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: “TIME SERVED, FINALE!” Endings and beginnings! As the first volume of the smash hit series races to a close in this oversized final issue, Marty uncovers the last secret of Jailbird Joey Baines—while Doc Brown and family prepare for an all-new adventure!
STEPHEN: It’s been too long since I picked up a copy of Back to the Future. This is a fun series that shouldn’t be passed up, and as a milestone issue that gets ready to launch a new arc, this is definitely on my must-read list this week.
MISTER MIRACLE #5
Writer: Tom King
Artist: Mitch Gerads
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: How do you spend your last night on Earth? Why, with the one you love, of course! Having been condemned to death by the new Highmaster, Mister Miracle is going to have to return to New Genesis for his execution. Before he does, he and Big Barda go on one last date. But if Scott Free truly is infected by Darkseid, as Orion says, you can bet some dark force will intervene-only to what end?
CHRIS: While not the same tone of the Mister Miracle that Kirby created, Tom King’s story is gripping and compelling enough to recommend. The art is great and establishes mood, while at times makes you wonder what the hell is going on.
STEPHEN: Such a great series. So much heart, emotion, and an underlying sense of dread and terror throughout. We are almost at the halfway point, and I still don’t know what the end game is.
RUMBLE #1
Writer: John Arcudi
Artist: David Rubin
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: #3.99
SOLICITATION: “SOUL WITHOUT PITY,” Part One
Rathraq is back! But who is he, exactly? Once an ancient warrior god, he was resurrected as a sword-wielding scarecrow. And now, Rathraq has transformed yet again-or has he? JOHN ARCUDI and new artist, superstar DAVID RUBÍN, give you the new face of Rathraq and a new direction for the series when the critically acclaimed RUMBLE returns!
CHRIS: Rumble is back! After what seemed like an eternity of a hiatus, John Arcudi’s barbarian scarecrow fantasy adventure continues. While there is a new artist this go around, David Rubin’s work looks like it fits right in. Go read the previous issues as well. Great stuff!
