DETECTIVE COMICS #962

Art by: Alvaro Martinez, Raul Fernandez
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: “INTELLIGENCE” finale! Ascalon, the deadly artificial intelligence created by the Order of St. Dumas, is ready to replace Azrael and purify Gotham City… and all that stands in the way of the world’s most flawless computer brain is the mind of Batman himself!
WAYNE: I continue to be loving this series! Highly recommended!
THE FLASH #26
Written by: Joshua Williamson
Art by: Carmine Di Giandomenico
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: “NEGATIVE” part one! It’s a bleak new day as the citizens of Central City meet Negative-Flash! He’s got a terrible attitude and volatile powers that leave a wake of destruction wherever he goes. Exactly the kind of person you’d want The Flash to put behind bars. There’s just one problem: he is The Flash! Can Barry Allen get his new powers under control before they kill him?
WAYNE: I’m enjoying the different things that happen to Barry and how he deals with them. Making Barry go negative is going to be something he’s going to have to figure out how to resolve, and I’m anxious to see how he does it!
MISTER MIRACLE #1 of 12
Written by: Tom King
Art by: Mitch Gerads
Cover Art by: NickDerington
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: From the team behind THE SHERIFF OF BABYLON and the Hugo Award-nominated writer of Vision comes a unique new take on one of Jack Kirby’s most beloved New Gods.
Scott Free is the greatest escape artist that ever lived. So great that he escaped Granny Goodness’ gruesome orphanage and the dangers of Apokolips to travel across galaxies and set up a new life on Earth with his wife, the former female fury known as Big Barda. Using the stage alter ego of Mister Miracle, he has made a career for himself showing off his acrobatic escape techniques. He even caught the attention of the Justice League, which counted him among its ranks.
You might say Scott Free has everything…so why isn’t it enough? Mister Miracle has mastered every illusion, achieved every stunt, pulled off every trick – except one. He has never escaped death. Is it even possible? Our hero is going to have to kill himself if he wants to find out.
Written by Tom King (BATMAN) and illustrated by Mitch Gerads (The Punisher), this is a MISTER MIRACLE unlike any you’ve read before.
STEPHEN: Even though it is a maxi-series, Mister Miracle might just be that series we need. With celebrations for Jack Kirby’s 100th birthday taking place this month, Mister Miracle is the perfect book to pick up and read this week.
WAYNE: Mr. King has the “Midas touch” these days, making even a comic with Elmer Fudd collectible! What’s he doing with Scott Free? I have to find out, so I’m there!
RED SONJA #7
Writer: Amy Chu
Artist: Carlos Gomez
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The She-Devil embarks on a whole new adventure… across America! Sonja takes a ride with Max in search of a way back home, and discovers maybe our worlds aren’t that different after all…
STEPHEN: I never fully got behind Red Sonja in the modern age, but here we are, and she’s finally getting out of New York to see what the rest of the world is all about. This should be interesting, especially when she hits the rural areas of the country.
THE SHADOW #1
Writer: Si Spurrier & Dan Watters
Artist: Daniel HDR
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: For the better part of a century the Shadow’s sinister laughter brought the chill of fear to evil-doers – but in our modern times, the streets of Manhattan have gone largely silent. But he is not forgotten. Not by the people he’s saved. Mary Jerez, is one of those people. The Shadow saved her from a horrifying school shooting – Mary knows all too well what evil lurks in the hearts of men.
So when a horribly burnt man – incredibly strong and fierce, despite his terrible injuries— arrives under her care as a resident at the hospital – she believes she knows who he is, too. Is this mysterious man actually the Shadow – and with Mary’s help, will evil-doers again know what it means to fear his terrible justice?
Si Spurrier (X-Force, X-Men: Legacy, Judge Dredd) and Daniel HDR (Superman, Cyborg) bring the pulp icon into modern day in a tale full of deadly intrigue, gun-blazing action, and a study of the nature of evil!
STEPHEN: I’ve already stated I like my pulp heroes in the past, and modern day tales quickly wear out their welcome. The Shadow #1 is quite a bit different and the cliffhanger has me hooked to find out what happens next, and worth picking up. However, if you are someone who has problems with discussions of white privilege, this book may not be for you.
