Though I briefly played football in Junior High School, I’ve never really been a sportsy kind of guy. That said, there’s something to be said for a good sports movie, especially one with a ragtag group of misfits, ala The Bad News Bears. Knowing that our fictional sports team will always win in the end, that the outcasts will bond together in solidarity and that someone will find love overcomes the daunting realization that, in real life, sometimes the best team loses. Even when things are less upbeat at the end, as in ‘Varsity Blues’ (which you may only remember as the movie where Dawson’s Creek says “Ah down’t wunt yer laaahf!), there’s a lesson to be learned, a championship to be won and feel-good moment’s galore, leading to today’s junior varsity query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) would likely choose 2004 ADAA Dodgeball Champions Average Joe’s Gym, as seen live on ESPN-8, The Ocho, asking: Which fictional sports team do you root for the most?

Wild Thing pitching for the Cleveland Indians. Or the Charlestown Chiefs!
At this moment? Fujimi High soccer team.
Harlem Globetrotters.
Don’t tell the Washington Generals!
The Harlem Heroes; fictional team in a fictional sport, in early 2000AD.
I think I’d have to go with the Wildcats. They are U.G.L.Y. They ain’t got no alibi. But they show up in the end.
