Sharp-eyed Spoilerites on social media will note that, this week, I have been binge-watching that show that everybody was raving about last winter and totally loving it. Last night, I got to the massive cliffhanger finale, where the ingenue took unprecedented steps, the mastermind was taken out of the picture and now the entire landscape of the story has to change, leading Stephen to remark that he doesn’t even know how the show can continue. It was a truly impressive tour de force moment featuring stellar acting, impressive cinematography and Steven Ogg, ranking right up there with the most successful finales in my memory and leading to today’s breathtaking query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) still gives the Number One slot, pun intended, to Riker ordering Work to fire all phasers on Picard in the season 3 finale of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’, asking: Which cliffhanger ending is the most effective “OHMIGAWWWD!” moment of all time?

Note: I didn’t say I didn’t know how it would continue, I said I didn’t know how they were going to start the next season – i.e. jump ahead in time, pick up where the finale left off etc. Also, I couldn’t talk more about why I was saying that because someone is six months behind on everything…
Hey, that’s not true!
Sometimes I’m a year behind…
Wasn’t Patrick Stewart’s contract up and they weren’t sure he would renew?
The still unresolved cliffhanger of cancelled Syfy series “Alphas”.
As for cliffhangers that really led into a new season or spin-off or just the next episode or something, the “Star Trek: Enterprise” season 3 finale “Zero Hour”, which leaves off with the crew arriving to Earth during a slightly altered version of World War II (with alien Nazis and everything). I was never the biggest fan of Enterprise, more of a casual watcher (with the thought “Well, at least I can say I’ve seen it”, although I did come to enjoy several characters from the series), but that cliffhanger really did it’s job and left me intrigued for the next season.
The ULTIMATE classic cliffhanger of. them all.
