6) PROCYON
Alpha Canis Minoris is the brightest star in Canis Minor, and one of the brighter visible stars in the night sky. Weirdly, my research today indicates that it is pronounced “PRO-see-on”, and not “prock-yonn”, as I’ve always pronounced it. The name of the star is Latin for “little dog’, as it has been associated with the hounds that follow Orion, whose name is associated with a nearby constellation. and whom we’ll get to in a moment.
