1) SHE LOOKS FAMILIAR
Still, the crown-prince of the meta-crossover will always be Steve Englehart. Not only did he mastermind that first mash-up, he was the writer behind the most blatant of them all, as seen when the Justice League Of America crossed paths with Willow, a mysterious martial artist from another world. That world was the Marvel Universe, as Willow was implicitly Mantis, an associate member of the Avengers from Englehart’s run on that book, last seen as the Celestial Madonna who would give birth to a child of prophecy. That actually happened in comics from a third company, during Englehart’s run writing ‘Scorpio Rose’ for Eclipse Comics, before Mantis returned to the Marvel Universe a couple of years later.
Thanks to Faithful Spoilerite Kevin Bentley (@boogplum) for this week’s topic! Feel free to follow along @MightyKingCobra for more Ten Things madness on Twitter or check out the full archive here! As with any set of like items, these aren’t meant to be hard and fast or absolutely complete, especially given that Clark Kent has appeared more often in the Marvel Universe than Ben Parker and Howard The Duck once fought The Savage Dragon in a darkened warehouse… or something.
