3) SHABBAS QUEEN
A member of the Jewish Hero Corps, her primary function is to introduce young readers to the concepts and rituals of Judaism. Armed with a special wand (whether magical or technological is unclear), she can control weather, incapacitate people and, most didactically, deactivate electronic and mechanical devices, albeit with the caveat that it recharge one day out of each seven. (Yes, I’m splitting hairs on “holiday” vs “holy day” here, but I told you this one was hard! Shabbas or Shabbot is a day of rest, where Jewish law prohibits many activities for the devout. In some orthodoxies, even turning on electricity is considered melakhah, making her wand even more thematic.)
