Recently, Major Spoilers EIC Stephen and I had a discussion (I don’t remember where or why, but we spend several hours a week talking, so I’m sure it got recorded somewhere) about ‘Close Encounters Of The Third Kind’, one of younger me’s favorite movies. After all this time, the musical encounter at the end between synthesizer and mothership was still lodged in my memory, reminding me of how often I watched the film in the early 80s. Strangely, though, I haven’t thought about it in years, and I can think of no actual reason why it has gone from the ‘Favorites’ pile to the ‘Lost Favorites’ pile, especially in today’s streaming/iTunes/instant gratification world, leading to today’s half-remembered query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) also wants to revisit the 1986 season of ‘Saturday Night Live’, but can’t find them unedited, asking: What pop-culture lost favorites do you now realize you haven’t experienced in years?

Miami Vice. Its been close to 10 years since I saw any episode of that show. Its still the best cop show ever made if not counting first (and the only one I’ll ever admit exists) season of true Detective.
Voltron. I just recently realized I hadn’t seen it in forever and have started going back and re-watching the DVDs
This is a tough one because I spend a lot of time re-watching old favorites. Not all of them all the time, but I spread out re-viewing, re-playing or re-reading over the year (particularly in the waiting time between seasons of newer shows or while awaiting a new novel to come out).
But off the top of my head…
The first two Monster Rancher games. Ever since my last copies were stolen, I haven’t been able to track down an affordable working copy of either game (online sellers want $100+, used game stores never get copies or immediately sell them, garage sale copies are too damaged to play, etc.).
I haven’t watched the old Star Wars cartoon “Droids” in at least a decade (I actually enjoyed “Droids”, though I wasn’t that big on “Ewoks”), nor have I seen “Galaxy High” since Sci-Fi Channel had it airing when they used to play cartoons.
Except for a few select arcs aired on BBC America during special events (such as the lead-in to the 50th anniversary special) or the crossover “The Five Doctors” (or even “The Five-ish Doctors”), I haven’t seen any Fifth Doctor episodes in about a decade. Similarly haven’t seen any Sixth Doctor episodes in about the same amount of time (and with the same special exceptions for one or two select arcs).
