7) MR. NATURAL
First appearing in 1967, Robert Crumb’s bearded wise man caused some serious discussion during the preparation of this 10 Things, with Otter Disaster and I finally deciding that he counted on sheer chutzpah alone. After all, years before I every picked up a comic book, I was familiar with Mr. Natural’s catchphrase “Keep On Truckin’.” (I had it on a shirt when I was like six…) Equal parts crackpot and genius, Mr. Natural may also be the most merchandised underground character of ’em all.
