6) GRAVESTONE
Inspired by and adapted from a Golden Age character known as The Fantom Of The Fair, Gravestone’s 1990s incarnation got a truly raw deal. Revived as part of Malibu Comics Protectors, he was saddled with a grimdark name, a skull mask and was eventually traded away to the Ex-Mutants. Of course, any story about the Protectors wouldn’t be complete without the coup de grace: When the book was cancelled, Malibu ended the series with an Earth-shattering crisis that ACTUALLY shattered the Earth, leaving every character in the series dead.

OMG there was really an X-Men title called X-Statix? Awful.
It was actually quite good. The whole point of the book was to skewer/parody the idea of the X-Men as well as the nascent celebrity culture… I recommend it, honesty.
I’ll second that. At the time it came out, I was fairly burnt out on X-Men and Marvel mutants, but it was a magnificently fun book. A bit messed up at times, but very entertaining all the same.
