Yesterday, I discovered one of the most fascinating bits of minutia in a long time: Legendary composer John Williams provided incidental music for the first season of Gilligan’s Island. Given that nearly every music cue on that show was amazing (think about Gilligan wandering around the lagoon, and try not to hear the “duh dada dun dada dun dada dun DAAH!”) I’m not surprised, but it got me thinking about the nature of music in television and radio. The original ‘Hitchhiker’s Guide’ radio show had amazing music (especially the soaring opening track, which still gives me goosebumps) and ‘Firefly’ wouldn’t be what it is without the quiet, brilliant dissonance of folk/country music in a high-tech space setting, leading to today’s melodious query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) also got really sad about the decline of the traditional television opening theme song, but that’s another story entirely, asking: Which movie, show or radio program(me) has the absolute BEST music to your ear?

Mozart. Its impossible to top that.
I really enjoy the music from Steven Universe. Aivi and Surasshu makes some of the best music. The absolutely best is the vocal songs with the Jail Break episode has the best song.
The ABSOLUTE BEST MUSIC has to be Firefly. Every time I go back to watch that wonderfully short show I can’t help but sing “TAKE MY LOVE. TAKE MY LAND. TAKE ME WHERE I CANNOT STANNND!!!!” at the top of my lungs. Can’t beat a show that makes you emotional with JUST THE THEME SONG.
The music I enjoy the most are John William’s scores. The Smallville scenes from Superman the Movie are among my favorite.
