Who didn’t love the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series from the 80s? Okay, granted, kids who were born in the last decade or those who were too young to watch the show when it originally aired, probably could care less. Those same people may have mad love for the current Nickelodeon TMNT series that has been running for the last couple of years. Now the generations can finally come together as the greatest TMNT teams of two different centuries crossover this month.
Trans-Dimensional Turtles aires on March 27 at 11:00 AM ET/PT and features characters from both series meeting up for the first time.
In “Trans-Dimensional Turtles,” all eight Turtles must battle to eliminate both the ‘80s Krang and Kraang Sub-Prime. After meeting their ‘80s counterparts in a 2D-animation world, the entire clan moves back into a CG-animation dimension, giving their new retro friends a taste of their realm. Additionally, in another dimensional twist, the episode will offer a glimpse of the Turtles in a comic book world resembling Kevin Eastman’s Mirage Studios comic book series.
This is one of the most interesting and, to me, the craziest crossover I’ve seen since X-Men ’92 met their present day selves.
I’ll be honest, I’m kind of interested in watching this to see if the 3D turtles will be 3D when they are in 2D world and vice-versa. It could be one of the coolest bits of fun on television in recent years, or it could completely fall apart. In either case, this episode is going to be so much better than that upcoming TMNT live action movie.

I’m curious if they will reference the last crossover featuring the 80’s team, “Turtles Forever”, where the 80’s team and 4Kids team (the team just before Nick’s version) not only met each other, but the original black and white comics team (rendered in black and white, too!). There were also references to a “TMNT Multiverse”, with windows showing glimpses of other incarnations of the team, so it would be interesting if they refer to it in some way.
I don’t count the previous appearance of the 80’s team on this series as a crossover, though, since the only being that crossed universes was a giant worm (and it was animated in 2D in the 80’s universe rather than the 3D of the current team’s universe).
Sweet. My kids turtles gett to meet my turtles. We’re definitely going to watch this one.
