I think it was the gushingly enthusiastic review of Ashley V. Robinson that first got me to pick up Gotham Academy (whose first volume is reviewed during this week’s stellar Major Spoilers Podcast) and I’ve never regretted the decision. Though the big bad Bat makes a few fleeting appearances, it’s mostly the story of a group of kids at the well-to-do titular academy, and the strange adventures they get into thanks to Gotham City’s rich and arcane history. References to the rest of the DCU (and to pre-Flashpoint Batman stories) abound, but the main focus is on Olive and her middle-school pals having adventures and doing teenager-type stuff while occasionally solving mysteries, an approach which I really enjoy. One of the closest analogues I can make is to the Marvel Comics ‘Damage Control’, another series that exists in the shadows of the superhuman fighty-fighty, leading us to today’s secretive query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) would really love a series set at the far-future Legion Academy, but then, DC would have to get their $#++ together on a main Legion book, so I won’t be holding my breath on that one, asking: In what fictional setting would you most be interesting in seeing a between-the-fight-scenes, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern style supporting series?

After I saw that gut wrenching Green Leader comic by Daniel Warren Johnson (If you haven´t seen it, go check it out immediately!) I´ve been hoping for comic book about regular Rebel Alliance pilots and soldier between and at the sidelines of big movie battles and events. A view from regular Joes´eyes. Show them at the hangar of Calamari Cruiser preparing to scramble or at the mess room having lunch and joking, regular military stuff with alien species in Star Wars setting with real and well written personalities.
Pilots and smugglers have always been my heroes in over lightsaber dudes anyway and in my opinion, most exciting battles in Star Wars are space battles and dogfights.
Definitely Star Wars. I’ve enjoyed the vast majority of offerings in both canon and the Expanded Universe, and some of my favorite stories were those that didn’t focus on Jedi or Sith, but on the “mundane” beings of the universe: Smugglers, medics, military personnel, couriers, mechanics, slaves, bounty hunters and so on. It isn’t that I don’t like Force users, I just want to see more canon stories involving characters who aren’t Force users.
Read Tag and Bink are Dead
The Dresden Files. One of my favorite works in the series is a short story that details Dreseden’s attempt at a Day Off. I also love the stories told from other character’s point of view. So what would I want? Well, Ramirez is an awesome character, so I’d love to see a story from his point of view during a time when he’s not waging war with the Red Court or dealing with the fallout of Changes. I think it’d be a fun and interesting tale.
