This weekend marked the 40th anniversary of the first live broadcast of ‘Saturday Night Live’ (then called ‘NBC’s Saturday Night’, thanks to a competing show starring Howard Cosell), and over the years there have been a number of surprisingly entertaining hosts. While the likes of Alec Baldwin and John Goodman have appeared over and over again to bring the laughs, there are a few (like Ralph Nader, newsman Edwin Newman and Lady Gaga) who were entertaining in their sheer awkwardness/awfulness. With a live program, “Good” is okay, but “Bad” can be even better, making me wonder what a show hosted by Tony Stark would be like or, even better, one hosted by comic legend Herbie Popnecker. (Yes, I know you don’t know who that is. Google it, it’s funny stuff.) Indeed, the idea of Thor as host with musical guest Wonder Woman sounds like a show I’d pay good money to watch, leading to today’s admittedly pretty ridiculous query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) figures that it’s Monday, so why make sense, asking: Which fictional character would make the best SNL host?

The Batman.
But you’d need Will Ferrell / Chris Kattan to play off of him, or even a Chris Farley auditioning to be the next Robin.
Maybe an unaanounced cameo by the Joker?
Musical guests – Ozzie and the Cobblepots.
The Eighth Doctor, if for no other reason than to give the man more screen time.
The Hypnotoad from Futurama.
Dr Doom. I´d like him to make threats to all mankind and constantly speaking of himself in third person. It would be glorious.
Star Trek: TOS
Captain Christopher Pike
I’ll allow it, but only if he’s in his ‘Yes/No” beepy chair…
Plastic Man!
Or, you know, Genie from Aladdin. Actually, I don’t think you can top Genie from Aladdin, but he’s a wish-granting genie so he really has an unfair advantage there..
