Season one of Star Wars Rebels just wrapped, but production on season two is well underway, and Sarah Michelle Gellar has joined the cast.
Though we don’t know what role SMG will play, Deadline indicates that her character will be a recurring throughout the season. Those who have been watching the series from the beginning know Sarah’s husband Freddie Prinze Jr. voices Jedi Kanan. The first season was only 16 episodes long, but it looks like season two will be close to 30 episodes.
Set fourteen years after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and five years before Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Rebels takes place during an era when the Galactic Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy. Imperial forces are hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights while a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking form.
Dave Filoni, executive producer/supervising director said, “We’re thrilled to have Sarah Michelle Gellar on board for season two. She is a true ‘Star Wars Rebels’ fan and her passion undoubtedly comes through in the voice recording sessions.”
It will be interesting to see what character Sarah Michelle Gellar will takes on, and if she is a villain, it will be interesting to see husband/wife square off against one another.
The popular “Star Wars Rebels” series has reached over 49 million Total Viewers, 5.6 million Boys 6-11 and 10.9 million Kids 6-11. Its season finale revealed the identity of Fulcrum to be Ahsoka Tano. The storyline will continue into season two.
