So Regal Cinema “accidentally” leaked information that the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will hit its theaters this weekend, but chances are most of us won’t get to see it.
Though I expect other theaters chains to get the trailer to show before its movies, only Regal Cinemas have announced which theaters are getting it:
- Edwards Irvine Spectrum 22 & IMAX, Irvine CA
- Edwards Mira Mesa Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX, San Diego CA
- Regal Atlantic Station Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX, Atlanta GA
- Regal City North Stadium 14 IMAX & RPX, Chicago IL
- Regal Union Square Stadium 14, New York NY
- Regal Warrington Crossing Stadium 22 & IMAX, Warrington PA
- Regal Pinnacle Stadium 18 IMAX & RPX, Knoxville TN
- Edwards Houston Marq’E Stadium 23 IMAX & RPX, Houston TX
- Regal Thornton Place Stadium 14 & IMAX, Seattle WA
I find it interesting that, save for New York, the theaters running this trailer happen to have IMAX screens.
Originally, the trailer was to debut during the weekend of December 02, 2014, but now that this little bit of information has slipped out (and now taken down on the Regal Cinemas twitter and website), I expect we’ll see an official release online on Monday (or even on Monday Night football) next week.

This is a ploy to sell tickets. For shame.
I am content to wait. More previews will come between now and release, and they’ll be available on the Internet.
