No sooner did it land on the LEGO website, than the LEGO Ideas Research Institute (21110) sold out. There’s no word on a release date, but those who scramble may be able to find the set on store shelves.
According to The Brick Fan, you may be able to find the set at Toys R Us stores. If this is the case, I need someone to run out and buy me a couple of sets this weekend for future MajorSpoilersVideo LEGO build videos.
I really fault LEGO for this mistake in having enough inventory. Since it was first announced, the LEGO Ideas set received press far and wide as a positive move for women in STEM careers, and the company should have quadrupled production to meet demand.
The same thing happened with the LEGO Ideas Exo Suit set. Considering the two released within days of one another, LEGOites snatched both of these up quickly. Incidentally, the LEGO Ideas Exo Suit is also reported to have shown up on Toys R Us shelves, and may still be there.
Seriously, if you can get one or both of these sets and send them to me, there is a free Critical Hit sketchbook (while supplies last) that will be sent to you.

Brothers Brick did confirm with Lego that the Exo-Suit is not going to be a limited release, and will be back in stock. I’d imagine the Research Institute is probably in the same boat.
I have seen the restock on Exo Suit, but no word on Scientists. That will really suck if they don’t restock soon.
Amazon currently has it for $34.95 and will be in stock on 8/18
I work at a Toys R Us in Toledo Ohio and have not seen either of these sets on the shelves in that store. It is probably in limited distribution to stores in larger markets.
FOLLOW UP: I checked with the TRU managers and supervisors at the store I work at and they told me neither of these sets have appeared on any recent trucks. Good luck finding one at your local TRU store. It sounds like it will be “hit and miss” for these sets.
