We learned yesterday that Guardians of the Galaxy would get a sequel and that James Gunn was already attached to write and direct, and now, right at the end of Marvel’s Hall H panel, the release date was announced.
July 28th, 2017 is the date to mark down for Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
With all of the dates that Marvel has announced in the last week it’s finally time that we start learning what we will be seeing. Guardians 2 is the first film announced for 2017 from Marvel with still a date in November to announce a project for. Of course, it won’t surprise me when a third film for the year is slated for a Spring 2017 release as Marvel seems to be itching towards three film releases each year.
With the announcement about the sequel coming at the very end of the panel with Feige giving a classic “one more thing” line, I’m going to guess that maybe Marvel did not want the sequel to be announced in a quick interview by the first films writer. At least Marvel was able to give the release date.
It is comforting to know that at the end of the credits for Guardians next week we will see “The Guardians of the Galaxy will return.”
