Sam Raimi was in Hall H today to receive and award and make a few announcements, one of them being that he is producing a film adaptation of the hit game The Last of Us.
Raimi isn’t the only name attached to this adaptation though as the writer and creative director for the video game, Neil Druckman, has been named as the writer for the film. No director has been named for the film yet, but Druckman will have a large say in that department, as well as almost every other department.
Druckman and Naughty Dog, the company behind The Last of Us, were assured when taking the pitch for the movie that they would be able to write the film as well as have final say on casting and the director.
The creator of the game has already said that he was planning on making drastic changes to the story of the game to make it more accesable for film, but Rami convinced him it wasn’t necessary saying, “it doesn’t need to be different, it needs to capture the core of the game.”
While no one besides Raimi and Druckman are officially attached to the project the pair did say they did already have a meeting with Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) to play Ellie. Again, nothing official, but there has been a meeting.
