The rumors were flying fast yesterday about a Tina Fey produced/ starting Disney film, but now that the dust has settled we can let you know what has been confirmed.
The story first started making the rounds after a post on a tracking board post said that Fey was attached to a “Hocus Pocus” sequel, with the following synopsis given.
The sequel will pick up years after the original, focusing on a housewife who is related to the Sanderson sisters, who teams up with a witch hunter to save her children after they run afoul of some resurrected witches while out trick-or-treating.
However, Variety quickly spoke to Fey’s people and they confirmed the project was not Hocus Pocus 2. The witch part of the original rumor does have a piece if truth in it however, as The Wrap confirmed that the project is being refereed to as Untitled Witch Project.
With Disney’s current run at taking their classic fairy tales in to live action films, if scoured the list of their past animated films we could pinpoint this Untitled Witch Project. However, it would be interesting to see them create a fully new fairy tale for this next film.
One last interesting tidbit that might shed light on the project is that Deadline says the film will “be in the vein of Ghostbusters.” What that means I have no idea, and that just came from Deadline sources, so take that however you would like.
