Guillermo del Toro – Special Message about Pacific Rim [HD]
Guillermo del Toro, director of Pacific Rim and the upcoming Crimson Peak, recorded an exciting message exclusively for Legendary fans.
In a conversation with BuzzFeed, the director gave the word that many of the people that made the first happen will be returning. Travis Beacham will be working on the script with Zak Penn and del Toro, with Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Mary Parent and Callum Greene producing.
From an acting standpoint none of the cast including Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Robert Kazinsky have been attached to the sequel, but don’t freak out quite yet. In del Toro’s interview with BuzzFeed he said:
The characters I love will return. Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.
So, unless the characters are recast expect many of the same faces up on the screen.
It is safe to assume that with the push of an animated show and a continuation of the cartoon, Legendary and, new partner Universal, will be hoping for a large domestic box office than the $101 million Pacific Rim brought in last year. Thankfully, a strong presence in the international market ($310 million) allowed the film to earn back it’s $190 million budget.
For as big as the announcement of the sequel is, I’m more interested to see what is done with the animated show, especially if del Toro has a close tie to the production.

I’m really down for this. I think a good Pacific Rim series could be really awesome, especially if one takes some cues from Gundam like in part dealing with the politics of it all.
