When the official release date for Star Wars: Episode VII was announced recently, I’m sure the day soured for Universal and Duncan Jones as they realized Disney had picked the same date as their World of Warcraft film. Understanding it would be bad business to release on the same date as that highly anticipated film, Universal has decided to push back the release date.
March 11, 2016 is the date that fans of Blizzard Entertainment’s much loved World of Warcraft franchise will have to wait for to see the game on the big screen. While many could be saddened by the delay, hopefully this will give the production teams more time than originally anticipated to include material they otherwise might not have been able to use.
Universal has made a smart move by pushing the release date back instead of moving it forward into a jam-packed blockbuster summer. Hopefully the flood of money that the 2015 blockbuster season will surely generate will carry over into March of the following year to help the business end of a highly anticipated adaptation.
Filming for the Warcraft is slated to begin in early 2014.
