IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY!
Major Spoilers runs down the comics we are looking forward to, and recommending, this week.
ATOMIC ROBO SAVAGE SWORD OF DR DINOSAUR #2
Writer: Brian Clevinger
Artist: Scott Wegener
Publisher: Red 5 Comics
Cover Price: $3.50
SOLICITATION: Atomic Robo is trapped in the caverns of Hollow Earth where Dr. Dinosaur reigns as the God-King of the Interior Sun! Oh, and either the previous 65 million years will be erased from time, or the Western Hemisphere will be covered in deadly radioactive ash. So, there’s that too.
ROB: DR. DINOSAUR!
STEPHEN: I always hate it when I have to agree with Rob, but in the case of Atomic Robo, this is a must have book for the week.
WAYNE: Atomic Robo continues to be one of the best books produced today, so be sure to pick this issue up (and #1, too)!
BLACK BAT #4
Written by: Brian Buccellato
Art by: Ronan Cliquet
Cover by: Ardian Syaf

Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: “When Black Bat finds himself trapped by police who are determined to take him in ‘dead or alive’, he receives an assist from an unlikely source. Also, a look back at the night that Tony Quinn lost everything.”
WAYNE: The Black Bat is an interesting twist on the Batman legend since the character has lost his sight. It’s a fast-paced book that still makes us care about the people, so I’m a big fan and can’t wait to get it!
DEADPOOL KILLS DEADPOOL #2
Writer: Cullen Bunn
Cover Artist: Michael Del mundo
Publisher: Marvel
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: Hope you’re not a Deadpool fan—he DIES in this issue!Oh, but, uh…I hope you are a Deadpool fan, because, like…there are a lot of Deadpools in this issue. LOTS.TIME TO THIN THE DEADPOOL HERD!
RODRIGO: This is a good compromise, instead of Deadpool appearing in other people’s comics just have a dozen Deadpools appear in one comic. PROBLEM SOLVED.
DETECTIVE COMICS #23
Written by: John Layman
Art by: Jason Fabok/Andy Clarke
Cover by: Jason Fabok
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: “Alfred is forced to confront the Anti-Batman known as the Wrath! Taking care of Batman all these years has left Alfred with more than a few tricks up his sleeve, but will they be enough?”
WAYNE: I’m so happy to see the Wrath appear again since he is one of my all-time favorite Bat-villains. It’s like watching Bruce Wayne gone wrong. Mr. Layman always delivers a strong story, so I can’t wait to see this issue!
DIAL H #15
Writer: China Mieville
Artist: Alberto Ponticelli, Dan Green
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: This extra-sized conclusion to the epic DIAL H series has all the answers you’ve been looking for, and more questions you didn’t even think to ask! Stay on the line! The entire universe is at stake!
GEORGE: God, I’m going to miss Dial H. I don’t think China Mieville was able to fully stretch his legs on this one – his story was just too big for 15 issues. I do praise DC for allowing Mieville the freedom to do Dial H his way, without every burdening the title with cross-overs or guest stars. Nelson Jent was my favorite new DC hero until Open Window Man came along, and I’m sad to see them go and the rest of the dialers go.
ROB: Final issue of a fantastic series. Pick this up and if you haven’t read the other 14 issues, pick those up too. Hopefully this at least bleeds into some of the rest of the DCU because a lot of pieces here could be utilized for a lot of characters.
GAME OF THRONES JON SNOW & GHOST STATUE
Price: $349.99
SOLICITATION: There is a spiritual bond between Jon Snow and his direwolf companion, Ghost. Like Jon, the wolf cub was set apart from his siblings, and he leaves Winterfell with Jon to the Wall.
Attuned to danger with a preternatural sense, Jon and Ghost team as if one.
No detail has been spared in this faithful replica, crafted expressly for Dark Horse’s program by the sculptors at Gentle Giant Studios.
The large size and meticulous detailing make this a piece for the true collector.
* Limited-edition of 695 numbered pieces
RODRIGO: I gotta be honest with you, I’m just in it for the wolf. Hopefully Jon Snow is detachable.
SUPERIOR FOES OF SPIDER-MAN #2
Writer: Nick Spencer
Artist: Steve Lieber
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: • With superior villains come superior problems as the year’s sleeper hit continues!
• Out of bail and aiming to stay out of jail, Boomerang must get his cronies on target – but does the PUNISHER have them targeted already?
• Nick Spencer (AVENGERS) and Steve Lieber (HAWKEYE) continue this most evil exploration into the Marvel U!
GEORGE: The first issue was pretty fun, and I need my team of villains fix now that Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers is no more. Plus I could read the stupid adventures of Boomerang for just about ever.
SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #15
Writer: Dan Slott
Artist: Humberto Ramos
Publisher: Marvel
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: “Run, Goblin, Run!” Part 1 of 2 What’s it like to be a villain in the Marvel Universe…once the Superior Spider-Man sets his sights on you? Find out, from Phil Urich’s point of view, in what might be the final days of the Hobgoblin. Plus, what is the secret of “The Tinkerer’s Apprentice”? Who’s been helping the Terrible Tinkerer? And how is he, of all people, the reason everything in Spider-Man’s life will be changed forever?!
ROB: I am sadly behind on Superior Spider-Man for the first time since it released. That only has me more excited for a new issue this week, I get twice the Superior goodness all at once. And seeing how Ock deals with the latest Hobgoblin should be rather entertaining.
TRILLIUM #1
Writer: Jeff Lemire
Artist: Jeff Lemire
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $2.99
SOLICITATION: It’s the year 3797, and botanist Nika Temsmith is researching a strange species on a remote science station near the outermost rim of colonized space. It’s the year 1921, and renowned English explorer William Pike leads an expedition into the dense jungles of Peru in search of the fabled “Lost Temple of the Incas,” an elusive sanctuary said to have strange healing properties. Two disparate souls separated by thousands of years and hundreds of millions of miles. Yet they will fall in love and, as a result, bring about the end of the universe. Even though reality is unraveling all around them, nothing can pull them apart. This isn’t just a love story; It’s the LAST love story ever told.
Trillium is an 8-issue series that combines rich historical adventure and mind-bending science fiction into a sprawling, unconventional love story by Jeff Lemire (SWEET TOOTH, CONSTANTINE, ANIMAL MAN).
This amazing miniseries kicks off with 28-pages of story in a flip-book with two covers and two separate but connected stories!
GEORGE: Man, I don’t know how well a flip-book can work, but I’m a sucker for ambition (and time travel, archaeology and outer space colonization). Jeff Lemire’s got talent and I love his art, so here’s hoping this is a winner.
RODRIGO: This is my kind of love story.
