Everyone as been anxiously anticipating the Marvel Studios San Diego Comic Con panel, but now it is finally here. Take the jump to read about The Dark World, Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and….Avengers: Age of Ultron!
UPDATE: Now with photos!
The panel was kicked-off with Tom Hiddleston in full Loki gear interrupting Kevin Feige into introducing Thor: The Dark World. Footage was then shown of the film that featured Thor and the Warriors Three, followed by an extended trailer. Once that trailer hits online we will be sharing it with you.
Moving on to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson arrived on stage and the crowd was also introduced to Emily Van Camp who will be playing Sharon Carter aka Agent 13. Johansson let the crowds know that Natasha is a integral part of the Captain America sequel and said we should expect the film to feature a lot of “knuckle baring action.”
Samuel L. Jackson spoke about his character Nick Fury saying,
Almost everything that comes out of Nick Fury’s mouth is a lie. Fury has a very good idea of what’s going on but his paranoia keeps him from believing that’s what’s going on.
Kevin Feige said that the film, as far as Bucky is concerned, is pretty close to Ed Brubaker’s Winter Soldier comic.
Footage was shown that has been described as Captain, essentially, kicking the crap out of an elevator full of guys. Marvel has commented via Twitter and said that the Winter Soldier footage shown won’t makes its way online, so that is sad for all of us not in attendance.
Marvel then pulled their big surprise: the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy came on stage! Karen Gillian (Nebula), Djimon Honsou (Koranth), Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Dave Batista (Drax), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Chris Pratt (Star Lord), Michael Rooker all came up on stage to discuss the movie. Director James Gunn was also up on stage to talk the upcoming movie and here is what was said in quick points.
- Production is currently on day 14.
- The whole cast flew in just for this panel and will be flying pack to the UK tonight.
- Chris Pratt said this about Star Lord, “Star Lord goes around space making out with hot alien girls and being a bit of a jerk.”
- Gunn said that Batista won his role on the basis of his acting after auditioning six or seven times.
- Del Toro said he hasn’t filmed anything for the movie yet and was meeting the cast for the first time.
- Karen Gillian pulled off a wig a revealed a shaved head. She threw the wig into the crowd. Plan to see that on eBay within the hour.
- Very early footage was shown that I wouldn’t expect to see on the Internet.
Just when it seemed like the announcements were done, who would walk out on to stage but Joss Whedon himself. What news does the Avengers director bring with him?
The name of the Avengers sequel! It will be called Avengers: Age of Ultron. A slight teaser was shown that featured the faces of Iron Man, Steve Rogers, Thor, and Hulk. Again, wouldn’t expect that to make it online soon.
And with that the panel was over! Lot of great stuff coming from the panel and I bet there was much applause and screaming at multiple points.
