Yesterday, social media sites and the nerd-net in general was ablaze with the subtle announcement that an X-Force movie was in the early stages of development. Tweets of confirmation from Rob Liefeld and who the writer and possible director will be came out yesterday and we will wrap everything nicely together for you after the jump.
The rumors of an X-Force based movie began with a Bleeding Cool article discussing their investigation into a FOX registered domain name x-forcemovie.com.
I wouldn’t suggest heading to the domain right now though seeing as it will generate an error message.
Now, the registration of a domain name does not mean a movie is currently being worked on. However, Rob Liefeld began answering fan questions on Twitter and then gave some of his own thoughts on the entire idea.
Yup. Was informed in March RT @Graysonmm: @robertliefeld http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/07/12/fox-to-use-comic-con-as-launching-pad-for-wider-x-men-universe-x-force-film-included/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter … an X-Force movie?
And by informed, I mean told that an X-Force film was in the planning stages. Much different than shooting a film.
When they cast an X-Force film then its reason to celebrate. They have a Magneto film in ‘development’ as well. Proceed with caution.
While Twitter was still buzzing about the prospect of an X-Force movie coming in the future years, Hollywood Reporter reported that Jeff Wadlow, writer and director of Kick-Ass 2, has been tapped to write the X-Force adaptation and has hopes to direct it as well. This piece of news seems to point in the positive direction of X-Force being announced soon (*cough* San Diego Comi Con Hall H *cough*) since Wadlow is already in the FOX camp and has worked with current Marvel consultant Mark Millar. Hollywood Reporter also announced that Lauren Shuler Donner will be producing the film.
That is all the information that is available, currently, for this un-officially announced X-Force movie. I would be surprised if we don’t have an official announcement once FOX finishes their Hall H presentation at SDCC.
The FOX Hall H panel begins at 4:15 Pacific Time if any of you lucky folks will be at the convention. If you won’t be, make sure to stay at Major Spoilers all week as we inform you on all the happenings.
But, what do you think? Is an X-Force movie a good idea? Does the prospect excite you at all? Give us your thoughts in the comments below!

I know I may be in the minority here, but I absolutely LOVE Cable and am really crossing my fingers that this happens and happens well. If they can manage to pull off Days of Future Past I don’t think the time-travel stuff with Cable would be too much to handle (and ultimately they don’t have to get too crazy with it and just paint him as soldier from the future) and depending on the team it could just be awesome. I really hope they go for the classic almost terrorist group vibe fighting to stop something that no one even knows about yet. A mix of Terminator and X-Men.
