Time to bring the Poll of the Week back to its roots and get to the punching, the fighting, and the flavin’. Two heroes enter, one will leave. This week’s battle features the speedsters of the DC and Marvel universes – The Flash and Quicksilver.
THE FLASH
Nicknamed the Scarlet Speedster, all incarnations of the Flash possess “super-speed”, which includes the ability to run and move extremely fast, use superhuman reflexes and seemingly violate certain laws of physics
QUICKSILVER
Quicksilver (Pietro Maximoff) is a fictional character that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appears in X-Men #4 (March 1964) and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. He is the son of Magneto, the twin brother of the Scarlet Witch, and the paternal half-brother of Polaris.
Debuting in the Silver Age of comic books, Quicksilver has featured in four decades of Marvel continuity, starring in the self-titled series Quicksilver and as a regular team member in superhero title the Avengers. The character has also appeared in other Marvel-endorsed products such as animated films; arcade and video games; television series and merchandise such as action figures and trading cards.

The Flash has the Speed Force so he wins. I thought this fight already happened in JLA vs Avengers?
Also DC VS. Marvel from the 90’s.
The Flash. Always The Flash!!!
I might depend on which Flash you’re talking about, but in general he would be pretty clearly the favorite. I don’t think Quicksilver can move at the speed of light, which means the fight would be over in no time at all.
Speed of light is faster then speed of sound, but I could picture quicksilver cheating to win….
Argh! I want to vote for Quicksilver but the Flash’s power set has creeped steadily throughout his lifetime and would bring him the win.
Oh c’mon. With a costume THAT cool, how can The Flash lose?!
The key here is who would win in a FIGHT – not who is faster. The Flash has the speed, but Quicksilver isn’t above fighting dirty. Giving the edge to Pietro for not being afraid to take a cheap shot…
Actually, this fight occurred in the 90’s Marvel vs DC books that spawned the Amalgam universe.
If I remember right, Pietro did try to screw up the Flash by causing a truck to start crashing, and the Flash was fast enough to save the driver and then beat Pietro to a pulp.
Unless Pietro beat his stealth and got in a surpise round, he wouldn’t be able to land a cheap shot. There wouldn’t be a fight, it would just be the Flash beating him senseless before Pietro could react.
BUT, Flash is rarely written to be that decisive or ruthless in the use of his powers in a fight, just like Superman rarely gets to use his super speed to end any a fight in milliseconds. So in the comics Quicksilver would somehow manage to have time to get in a shot and the Flash wouldn’t just vibrate his hand into Pietro’s chest and stop his heart.
The Flash. Because HE NEVER WANTED TO HAVE SEX WITH HIS SISTER!!!!!!
That never sat right with me.
Flash is more than 800,000 times faster.
Next week: KID Flash (Bart Allen) vs. Quicksilver.
I had to vote Quicksilver. I see him cheating if need be or doing some really really rough stuff. This is of course he is currently a heel in the Marvel Universe.
I had to choose Flash purely from a standpoint that he is a tad more rational than Quicksilver. Forget for a minute about the speed force, Flash is more likely to metaphorically stop and think, while Quicksilver is most likely going to rush in headfirst. Flash will also use his smart-alec wit to provoke Quicksilver in to anger, which will lead to him getting sloppy.
Flash, for all intend and purpose his power is “magical speed” while Quicksilver is limited by physics.
Flash outguns Mercury by a factor of 10, time traveling, universe shattering speed versus, what? Around mac-X or so? No contest…
Flash.
Flash is an unintentional cosmic (in Flash 80-Page Giant #2, 1999, Wally evolves into an immortal energy being that transcends reality; in Kingdom Come, 1996, he is no longer confined to one plane of existence) who’s mommy issues single-handedly precipitated the reworking of the entire DCU. How the life or death of Nora Thompson Allen ends up impacting whether or or not Abin Sur crosses the universe to die, I’ll never know but that’s apparently what Johns thinks of Flash’s ability to impact reality.
When Quicksilver gained temporal powers the best he could muster was a causal loop without paradox. Quicksilver’s twin sister might fare a bit better since she has the same penchant for reworking reality.
I think the meet-up between Flash and Quicksilver in JLA vs. Avengers was important. If the Speed-Force is around, I think the flash takes it every time. But, if they’re fighting in the Marvel U, where there is no speed force, Quicksilver is the clear winner. His abilities are physical.
This poll seems pretty landslide, and I am rooting for the winner: Mr. The Flash. I will admit that Quicksilver is usually presented as a more sadistic character. But aside from that, I think The Flash outclasses him in every way.
This race already happened in some comic where a chacter named “Buried Alien” showed up in an tatered red and yellow costume, and blew past not only Quicksilver but every ohter speedster in the Marvel universe in a race to the moon I do believe. I’m sure matthew would know what comic it was.
It kind of depends on the nature of the fight. If the fight could be won by creeping your opponent out, Quicksilver would win by a mile. Any other means,it’s the Flash.
Barry Allen is pretty creepy in his own right. He set off to marry his new next door neighbor just months after his wife was murdered, he rebooted the entire universe based on some VERY Fruedian motives, and he’s a placid blank-slate that reminds me of Dexter Morgan… EEEEERRIIIEEE.
