When I was a kid back in the late Pleistocene Era, a video game was a different beastie. Instead of a Master Chief or a Samus Aran, you took the role of a faceless triangle or square, shooting straight-line lasers at blocky enemies, or perhaps deflecting a square with a straight-line. If you wanted to get really complicated, sometimes there would be TWO squares involved. These days, even the downloadable games for your cellphone have marketable characters with distinct personalities. My daughter’s is still quite enamored of a certain yellow avian who, due to his distinct battle cry, she has dubbed Ray-Ray. For me, thanks to hours spent in front of a PS-2, I still have a soft spot in my heart for budding psychopath Tommy Vercetti and his hideous aquamarine Hawaiian shirt.
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) has set up you the bomb, asking:
Which pixellated persona is the best video game character of all time?

Mario
I have to say Link from the Zelda series. The epic quality of every game he has been in keeps me coming back every time.
Pac-Man
I have to go with MegaMan. I love experimenting with all his cool powers as the game progresses.
Kirby, how often do you get to play as an adorable eldrtich abomination?
Metroid of course!
Have to mirror Russ Cat with Mega Man. Everything about the series is awesome, from the soundtrack to the creative level designs, the increasingly goofy but occasionally awesome evil robot names, the use of obtained enemy powers, and the challenging but simple gameplay. Every installment is a win!
Commander Shepard from the Mass Effect series. That trilogy has a fantastic galaxy sweeping storyline…until the last 5 minutes.
Nathan Drake. Hands down.
