Major Spoilers Costume Contest 2010: Meet the Entrants

    Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherOctober 24, 2010Updated:October 25, 201039 Comments2 Mins Read

It’s been another great year for the Major Spoilers Costume Contest!  Once again we had a huge turn out, with some really great costumes by some of the best cosplayers, and fans out there.  Take the jump for a look at all the entrants we received this year.

    UPDATE: MEET THE FINALISTS!

    DC

Batman as a general theme still has the most popular grouping of characters in the costume contest.  However, for the first time in years, we didn’t have a plethora of entrants dressed as Batman

    There was one Batgirl

And a fellow dressed as Robin

    There were two Huntress costumes

Several Riddlers entered the contest – perhaps in anticipation of the next Batman movie.

    And the Joker did return

And who can forget the Scarecrow?

By far the most popular theme for the year is the Green Lantern Corps, and the Blackest Night event.

This one makes me laugh every time – Meet the Sinestro Press Corps!

Then there are the rest of the DC characters that made their way into contest

    Red Arrow

    Aqualad

    The Comedian

    Star Girl

    The Weather Wizard

    Sensor Girl

    Blackfire

    Big Barda

    MARVEL

While we received a lot of entries from people dressed as DC Characters, Marvel characters showed up as well.

    Captain America

    Bucky

    The Thing

    Thor

    Guardian

    Magneto

    Mockingbird

    Mystique

    Pixie

    Namora

    Psylocke

    Quicksilver

    Rogue

    Speed

UPDATE: Forgot to post this Nova entry previously, though it doesn’t affect the voting.

    MISC.

    April and Shredder

    Star Wars Family

    Red Shirt (Star Trek)

Who will be in the finals? We’re busy at the Major Spoilers HQ tabulating our Top 5. Those finalists will be announced on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, with the winner announced next week!

Thanks again to everyone who entered the contest. You all did a fantastic job, and deserve to be recognized for your hard work.  If you didn’t enter this year, you have 360 days to get your stuff together for our big 5th anniversary contest!

definitely sinetro. comedian and star sapphire are both really good too. Captain America is cool too. YOU BETTER NOT CHANGE YOUR CHOICES BECAUSE OF MY FAVORITES.
Orange Lantern Lex, Pixie, Mockingbird, and Mystique were all good as well. I’ll also suggest Larfleeze because of my passionate love for him.

I agree, I thought the third Riddler just looked crisper and more put together, and the first one was nice but I kept laughing to myself because he really reminds me of that Lesko guy whose always on TV hocking those books about all the free government money that’s out there. These are my top 5 and really not in any order: 1) Star Sapphire for two reasons, a) she’s amazingly gorgeous, and the costume is really nice and her body type really fits it. 2) Sinestro (of course), although for some reason I feel like it just isn’t all that fair, it almost looks too professional. Like if Victoria entered the contest. That said, the man does some brilliant work with his costumes, make up and lighting. 3) Pixie, cause well lets face it, she’s just too cute. 4) Captain America. Well done and nice looking costume. 5) First Huntress. Really hot, showed some skin and did it all right. 6) Sorry, there are too many good ones. The third Riddler is really nice too.

Honorable Mention: The Fear and Loathing Sinestro just seems right, I mean Fear is right in the title.

The third Riddler does work well.

Star Sapphire has definitely got it going on.

I like Mockingbird. She looks like she could do some damage. Several good components working well together. Probably my favorite.

Pixie is just too cute. She should always keep her hair that color.

Man, I think Big Barda is absolutely fantastic – costume, body-type and demeanor is spot on.

I also like Larfleeze, as well as all the Sinestro Corps.

For the Marvels, I like the Cap, Pixie and Namora (big credit for foot wings) costumes. The Thing makes me want to have some Rice Krispy treats.

The first Huntress is terrific. She is really into it. Look at the shoes.
Sinestro is also good but I prefer the first Huntress.

I didn’t think the same person could enter multiple times. There are 5 pictures of the same person up there in different outfits.

I really like Star Sapphire (good outfit and she’s hot), Sinestro Corps(They’re all awesome as hell), Thing (damn that must have been a ton of work), Captain America (great look and your choice of backgrounds is awesome), Shredder (showing love!) and Comedian (not the best quality picture but it looks good!).

That has never been a rule in the four years we’ve been running the contest. People have always been able to enter as many times as they like.

The Pixie, Mockingbird, Cap, and Speed outfits were incredible. They all look ripped straight from the pages.
On the DC side, first Huntress and third Riddler take the cake, with honorable mention to Sinestro press bro.

These costumes were great. Here is my list of the top five:

1.) 3rd Riddler (Yet he looks like the same guy who did Sinestro)
2.) Captain America – reminds me of the 90’s movie version
      3.) Black Lantern Kal-L
      4.) Pixie
      5.) Star Sapphire

Wow, we had a LOT of good costumes. I have to commend all of the people who created these costumes. This was probably the best bunch of costumes I have seen yet.

Some outfits REALLY stood out, like Lex with the embroidery on the costume and Namora with the details and fit of the costume.

My biggest problem is narrowing down the list to five. I looked at the complexity of the costume and the composure of the picture narrow down my choices.
      My five are

Riddler #3 — The pose and background nailed it
Orange lantern Lex — Avarice personified
Thor — The background and windswept look really added to the great costume
Mocking Bird — The details and pose made it for me
Namora – This really stood out for me

      Honorable Mentions:
Star Sapphire – Like Damascus said, your bodytype fits the costume.
Red arrow – Pose and costume are great
Larfleeze – Fantastic, but too crowded of a background
      Pixie- You stole my heart
Mystique – You are scary – in a good way
Captain America – Great pose and background
Star Wars Family – This is a fantastic family outing
Darkstar – Fantastic looking. You did a great job

If I may suggest, when you are looking to compose THE picture for your character, find a setting that is suitable for your character. IMO, that really helps.
And don’t photoshop your picture to add special effects.

And don’t photoshop your picture to add special effects.

I don’t mind photoshop, in moderation, but in the case of Weapon Alpha/Vindicator/Guardian, I would have liked to see more of the costume. The work on the cowl was amazing, but I need to see if the feet look silly.

Clarification please? I keep seeing mention of everyone’s Top 5. When you said you were tabulating the Top 5:

Are we nominating people from those listed above, are you doing that yourselves and then we vote, or what exactly is the process to determine a winner?

      Reply
      • Stephen Schleicher on October 25, 2010 1:45 pm

Anyone is free to express which of the entrants is their favorite, however none of those comments are used in calculating the Top 5. That is being done by the fine staff at Major Spoilers, and the finalists will be announced on Tuesday.

It’s the same process we’ve been using for the past contests, and will continue this way in the future.

Just kidding, can’t wait to see the staff’s choices. I’m willing to bet that it’ll mostly reflect the majority of us Spoilerites, with a few exceptions for some most likely long winded reasons that will all make sense in the end.

There are a couple of folks in there that need to get an award for doing the cosplay thing despite a lack or excess of body-mass. The first Riddler needs a sandwich…badly!

It looks like a good time was had by all.

I know that it may lose points with some for accuracy, but my hands down fave is the Hunter S. Thompson “Fear and Loathing” Yellow Lantern. Never would have come up with that, but it’s awesome in all the right ways. Kudos.

Mystique is a must (the costume is perfect!) It even has the skull on her forehead.
Pixie also looks sweet, as does Huntress 1, Sinestro, and Cap.

Star Saphire gives me naughty thoughts and deserves an honorable mention at least. Same with Mockingbird.
